Sea arrivals
The main objective of this project is to early identify, since the migrants’ arrival at Pozzallo’s port and in the following days inside the hotspot, torture and cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment (CIDT) survivors, who have visible and invisible wounds that they will carry for a long time.
The early identification of these migrants, the report to the reception centers where they are hosted and the follow up to verify that they are properly taken care, are fundamental factors for the success of a good rehabilitation process and they are among the main objectives of this project.
Together with this intervention, the MEDU Team continues to collect, analyse and publish data regarding torture survivors, as a tool for recommendation and information based on real and concrete sources, in order to carry on raising awareness and promoting civil rights campaigns.
- Activities:
- medical and psychological support and early identification of the most vulnerable migrants since their arrival at the port;
- orientation with information regarding the place of arrival, procedures to be followed and legal information on the asylum application;
- medical and psychological support to the torture and cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment (CIDT) survivors and collection of their testimonies;
- drafting of medical and psychological reports for every beneficiary;
- referral of the most vulnerable migrants to the most appropriate public authorities, NGOs and reception centers;
- medical monitoring follow up to verify that the migrants’ vulnerabilities have been properly taken care of.
