Persephone. Clinic for foreign women victims of torture and human trafficking

The main goal of this initiative is to protect migrant women, asylum seekers and individuals holding international protection who experienced torture and human trafficking. This project provides support to access national and regional healthcare services, taking into account the women’s health and social needs.

ersephone is a clinic sponsored by USL (Local Helthcare Unit) Toscana Centro, it has a multidisciplinary equipe to favour a holistic care for women victims of torture and human trafficking, asylum seekers and individuals holding international protection. MEDU’s role is to provide psychological assistance to the patients.
This project begins acknowledging that women in great vulnerability, need an integrated approach that takes into account their social, juridical and health reality. This is to allow for a process that could facilitate the access to national and regional healthcare services, keeping in mind the many specific needs of these very communities.

The clinic hosts a multidisciplinary team that includes
• Obstetricians
• Anti-trafficking staff
• Psychologists from MEDU’s team
• Cultural mediators

Persphone provides a variety of specialized services within the fields of gynecology, psychology, psychiatry, pediatrics, radiology, dermatology, physiotherapy, rehabilitation and social and health care.
The service is free.
