Diary from Pozzallo – 7th June disembarkation

From the Medu clinical team operating during the disembarkation in Pozzallo
The general conditions of migrants are good, even if two persons have been immediately hospitalized
(one for skin burns)
At the time of disembarkation, the same persons, identified as the most vulnerable by our psychologist, have been also questioned by the police, inside the hotspot.
We speak with migrants, They say to us that they left from Gasr Garabulli (64 km East of Tripoli) in the evening of the feast ( the end of Ramadan on June, 4th) and they had remained for 3 days on the rubber boat before getting on the “big ship”.
“I had been in Libya since 2014” says B.B, a 19-years-old boy from Senegal” eyes down and crossed arms. “Twice I was put in prison. Three months in Zawiya. The second time I had been for 9 months in Tripoli. They beat me repeatedly under the feet (the so-called falaKa ). He tells us to sleep bad, to have flashback and to think continuously about what happened to him.
“People are afraid to leave” says M.A., a boy from Sudan “people know that there is nobody to help them in the sea. The sweatshirt I am wearing was from my friend, who died last year in the Mediterranean Sea. He was like a brother for me“
We ask him how the situation in Tripoli is. “It is dangerous, very dangerous. The Militias can kidnap you anytime. I used to live in Ain Zara ( a suburb 15 km South-East of Tripoli), where now there is the war, you can hear shots everyday . One day a building is controlled by militias, the day after by the Eastern army. Then they switch places again. It is dangerous. I was not far from the Salah al- Din prison. Ask about it around: that is the worst prison at all. ”
