Mobile clinic in Florence
MEDU’s mobile unit in Florence – a camper equipped as a clinic – reaches informal settlements, and railway stations in the city of Florence and other neighboring municipalities. The objective is to provide:
- primary healthcare
- information on the right to health and on access to social and health services in the area.
The multi-disciplinary team of the mobile clinic is composed of:
- a project coordinator
- a psychologist
- a cultural mediator
- different professional figures – from both the healthcare and non-healthcare sectors – who operate as volunteers with a multi-disciplinary approach (doctors, nurses, obstetricians, psychologists, anthropologists, sociologists, social workers and legal professionals).
The service will act on a complementary function to the Regional Health Service, which will retain its central role and its function to guarantee access to health services for the general population.
Activies
- Primary healthcare, as well as gcounseling about on social and health care services.
- A customized medical chart and a data sheet will be prepared for each patient
- The areas and the modalities of intervention are selected periodically after an accurate and continuous monitoring of the territory, giving priority to situations characterized by greater uncertainty and a lack or absence of access to social and health care services.
- An epidemiological fact sheet will be created for each settlement in order to assess their sanitary conditions.
Throughout the years, the project’s multi-disciplinary team has visited different contexts, in terms of both structural features and typology of dwellers:
- buildings occupied by beneficiaries of international protection;
- buildings occupied by Italian and non-Italian citizens, with different nationalities and legal status;
- railway stations;
- informal settlements of Sinti, Roma, Caminanti and Romanian communities.
